Porticato
This is the house where I grew up in Italy! In many ways this to me is home. I'm so lucky to have spent much of my childhood growing up here and luckier still that the house is still in the family and that I will be able to share this with my children.
I owe much of my knowledge and skills around building and design to helping my parents with deconstructing and reconstructing various bits of this house whether replacing the roof, re-pointing, or replacing supporting joists. One recent project was a "porticato" or lean-to. The original lean-to should have by rights fallen down at least 10 years and was long overdue for a renewal so I designed a new one in a sympathetic style. I moved the verticals outwards to give more space underneath and pinned the horizontals into the stonework for increased strength. |
